How to start your mindful journaling practice
2 steps to heal and manifest — Part 2
Strange feeling, strong intuition, need for creativity, desire for adventure, new calling, excitement….?
How many times have you NOT taken into consideration what really matters for you ?
I started journaling because my body kept communicating that I didn’t feel safe in my own skin.
(I used to suffer from chest pain, impulsive scratching, psoriasis, panic attacks, fear of abandonment, codependency….).
I did my best to fake it with a lot of parties, lots of work, lots of people pleasing… But behind my social mask, I felt insecure, constantly fighting and denying strong emotions.
This insecurity began during my childhood (around 5) and I’ve never paid attention to it until I turned 35.
It’s when I left my country, France, that I finally let go of my busy controlling mind, listened and followed my intuition, this little voice inside…. Thanks to my notebook.
That was the beginning of a very juicy adventure that started in Thailand, 4 years ago…
Since 2018, my journal has taught me every morning how to :
- Release my stress, anxiety, fears, strong emotions and ego.
- Have the courage to show the real me to people without feeling rejected.
- Shift the view of my “issues” that are not that problematic in reality…..
- Trust me, my intuition, people, the process of life.
- Let go of my “party girl mask” and “strong woman mask”.
- Accept myself as vulnerable because it’s good for my health, wellness and relationships.
- Not feel the need to fit into a society anymore to be happy.
- Simply be me….
Want to give it a try ?
Your journey to reconnect with something deeper (and juicier) starts now…!
How to Start Journaling (and have real pleasure doing it) ?
After a few minutes of the Mindfulness practice of your choice (follow this link to learn more),
I suggest you make a habit of opening your notebook right after you wake up (it also works very well right before going to sleep).
Here are 7 golden rules to get amazing results in your life in a few days with journaling :
- Keep it simple. Especially when you’re first starting out, journal only for a few minutes.
- Write what feels right and good for you. There’s no hard-and-fast rule on what you should write. It’s your private space to create whatever you want to express your feelings.
- Don’t worry about spelling or sentence structure (especially if it’s not your first language). You may prefer to write only if something is bothering you, or the opposite….
- Get creative. You might not be sure where to start with journaling or you might be reluctant if you’re not fond of writing. But journaling doesn’t have to be just about writing sentences. Try different formats. Write lists, make poetry, compose a song, write a letter or draw something, adding colour can be fun and enlightening!
- Try expressive writing. Writing about an event that was stressful or emotional for you may be more beneficial to your mental health than just diary writing.
- Start a gratitude journal. Giving thanks is good for your mental health. Start off by listing 5 things that you’re grateful for. These can be small things like a walk in the park, a delicious cup of coffee, or good weather. You can make a list or write full sentences. Details may help you relive the positive moments of your day.
- Don’t set your expectations too high. Rediscover the pleasure of respecting your intuition, creativity, calling, desire to adventure….
I’ll let you start (or deepen) your practice and come back to you in a week with my favorite prompts and creative exercises to cope with stress, anxiety and challenges ;)
