Getting out of your Emotional Prison — Journaling Tips

What is « Happiness » for you ?

Like « Success » or « Abundance », the meaning of those words is very personal to each of us.

I really recommend you to open your journal and to write down what happiness means for you because….

You will probably be surprised to realize that it’s not as clear as you think it is (you may also be unconsciously influenced by someone else’s definition without even knowing it).

When I first did this exercise, the first word that came to me was « Freedom », not especially Financially or Geographically (that is also important to me as a digital nomad), but rather Emotionally.

That was a surprise.

I used to think that my purpose in life was all about traveling freely around the world, and I realized that I was FAR from feeling free…. Emotionally.

I wanted to understand why, so I started studying the science of emotions and happiness.

What I quickly understood is this :

I wasn’t free because old fears had been stored, trapped, in my subconscious mind since childhood.

To get out of this vicious circle that I’ve called “my emotional prison”, I decided to adapt my daily journaling process.

It has worked above my expectations.

Writing has liberated me….

And it allows me to feel confident, to stand for what matters for me, despite my past traumas.

This is what I’m looking for, everyday, in my journal.

I want to set myself free from my strong emotions, tensions and mental confusions.

This is also what I’m teaching on my website and during my workshops.

Here is a short 5-step framework to reclaim your freedom, and move away from chronic stress, anxiety and PTSD :

  1. Pause your busy life for a minute, tune in, and feel the calm moving everywhere in your mind and body
  2. Open your notebook and set your intention for the day : what can make you (genuinely) happy today ?
  3. Before manifesting this intention, be honest with yourself and put some words on what is holding you back to get there, in order to unlock it : what really triggers you ?
  4. Now, choose another emotion to replace your triggers, write it down and feel the shift : keep writing about this new feelings, unleash your joy and amplify it with your writing
  5. Commit with yourself (remember that nobody will read your notebook), write the next action you can make to reach your intention, do it, and… Enjoy the journey of Anxiety Free Living

I hope you understand yourself (and your emotions) better.

Feeling anxious, angry, scared, guilty, frustrated, jealous, sad… is normal.

It’s in all of us. Sometimes it’s manageable, and sometimes it’s overwhelming, right ?

I can totally relate. It is difficult to understand your strong emotions because their true « meaning » is repressed in our subconscious minds for years.

That’s why, as we have body hygiene, we need to cultivate « emotional hygiene ».

That’s why it’s so liberating to talk to your subconscious mind with your journal.

It helps you put consciousness on what has been unconscious, and painful, since you were young (and not able to understand it)

Before journaling daily, my life was an emotional roller coaster.

I’ve always thought I was crazy because I was regularly (and violently) overwhelmed by intense feelings.

I used to see every unusual event as a catastrophe, a threat, a danger.

But since I’ve made a habit of putting words on what’s going on in my « stormy inner world », I feel less controlled by my past traumatic experiences that have created strong emotions and chronic anxiety….

…. And I hope it’s gonna be the same for you !
